Summary
EagleEye digital technology, a live sports production company based in the US, has partnered with semiconductor firm Xilinx to enhance its virtual fan solution with the latter’s artificial intelligence (AI).
EagleEye’s virtual fan solution uses previously recorded footage to reshape empty stadiums, and embeds realistic virtual crowds into live broadcasts, adding a real-time element in response to audio feeds.
Xilinx’s AI capabilities will improve crowd simulation, making it more realistic through optimising colour contrast and shadow effects, as well as providing realistic footsteps and chants through sound drift and delay.
The enhanced virtual fan solution is deployable on-site or in a remote production setting, and can be integrated into broadcasts without disrupting existing workflows.
The solution will be demo’d at the Sports Video Group Summit in Nashville, Tennessee between November 16 and 18.
