PlayStation 5 Pro - PS4 Image Enhancement - What Does It Do And Does It Work Well?
1 min read
Summary
PS4 Image Enhancement (IE) is designed to improve the quality of PlayStation 4 titles when they are played on the PlayStation 5, using AI to upscale the games to 4K
It does not work on all PS4 titles, with Sinister Vanguard citing Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham Knight as one game that doesn’t support the feature
While PlayStation 5’s Compatability feature simply allows PS4 titles to run on the console at their original visual quality, PS4 Image Enhancement takes these games and improves them, rendering a 4K image that is then fed to the user’s TV, according to Digital Foundry’s testing of the feature
It is reckoned that, with this feature switched on, playing on a 4K TV will give gamers the option of seeing PS4 titles running at their absolute best, even though the underlying rendering pipeline will still be that of a PS4 game.
