Summary
343 Industries has announced it is rebranding as Halo Studios and shifting from using the Slipspace Engine to the Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) for future titles including Halo Infinite.
As part of this shift, Halo Studios released a demo at the 2021 Game Awards for a new tools ecosystem called Permit Forge, built using UE5, demonstrating a foundry where players can create their own custom weapons and equipment for use in-game.
Permit Forge is aimed at providing creators with tools “to inspire limitlessstories and gameplay opportunities” while allowing even those without any coding experience to create customisable gameplay modules that can be shared with the wider community.
The demo can be seen here on YouTube and fans have speculated as to whether this indicates a possible ray-tracing orlikes feature being added to Halo Infinite, amongst other speculation about the implications of this demo.
