A player known as Coincident is the first to complete a ‘slaughter map’, packed with 23,211 enemies in a single segment, in the classic fps game Doom 2.
Coincident is a veteran Doom player who livestreamed the achievement after many years of attempting to complete the map.
With tool-assisted speedruns, it is possible to complete the map in under two hours, but this is the first time a human has done it in one go, taking just over six hours.
Players have to employ a strategic movement and constant action to prioritise survival and ammo management in the map, and on one easier difficulty setting it was estimated to be eight times more difficult.
This underscores the continued dedication and skills of the classic fps game community, where players are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in notoriously difficult levels.
