Epic Games Store completely eliminates revenue fees for smaller developers

Epic Games is reducing its fees for developers from the current 12% to zero for the first $1m in sales for each game on its Epic Games Store.
The new strategy will be implemeted in June and is a bid by the gamemaker to stay competitive with Steam, which offers developers a higher revenue share than Epic Games.
Steam reduced its fees recently from 30% to 25% for game earnings over 10m,andto2050m.
Epic previously offered a royalty-free allowance for the first 50kinsalesforprojectsmadeusingitsUnrealDevelopmentKit,increadingthisto1m in 2020.
Some speculate that the company hopes to identify small developers who make a big hit, then acquire them, similar to its buyout of Rocket League developers Psyonix.
