Summary
The Nintendo Switch 2 (previously known as the Nintendo Switch Pro) will officially offer 20 gigarays/sec of ray-tracing performance, according to gaming tech analysis website Digital Foundry, compared to the current Switch’s 10 gigarays/sec, reports Ars Technica.
It also confirms the CPU will be 8x ARM Cortex A78C cores running at 998MHz in handheld mode and 1020MHz when docked, and the GPU will be custom Nvidia silicon based on the Ampere architecture, running at 1007MHz in handheld mode and 768MHz when docked.
This will provide realised GPU performance of 3.072TFLOPS when docked and 1.71 when handheld, suggesting the upgraded hardware will primarily provide benefits when used in conjunction with a TV.
Nintendo has yet to confirm a launch date for the Switch 2 or unveil its official name or price point.
