Anno 117 Pax Romana hands-on: Gorgeous, deep, and tricky to learn

Summary
At a recent press event, digital arts publisher Ars had the opportunity to go hands-on with Anno 117: Pax Romana, the latest in Ubisoft’s long-running Anno strategy series, ahead of its forthcoming release this year.
Anno games are primarily city-building simulations, but they also involve supply chain simulations and the development of natural resources, production goods, and settlement development.
Whilst longtime fans of the franchise felt that Anno 1800 marked a successful return to the franchise’s historical city-building roots, Anno 117: Pax Romana aims to broaden the appeal of the series to a wider, non-European audience.
Whilst the presentation is described as “outstanding”, the press event found that the game’s new-player onboarding experience needed refining in order to attract new players.
