Summary
Valve has released version 3.7 of its SteamOS operating system, which adds official support for a range of third-party PC hardware, including the Asus ROG Ally, the Lenovo Legion Go, and the Lenovo Legion Go S.
It also offers directions for configuring these devices, as well as the original Legion Go and ROG Ally for SteamOS installation.
SteamOS can now be installed on “other AMD-powered handhelds” as well as desktops and laptops, as long as they use an NVMe SSD and an amd chipset.
This expansion of the SteamOS ecosystem beyond the Steam Deck has been facilitated by the recent announcement of a new “SteamOS Compatible” label for games.
It is likely that Valve is seeking to compete with Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service, which enables users to play Xbox games on a wide range of third-party devices.
