RIP EA’s Origin launcher: We knew ye all too well, unfortunately

Summary
Electronic Arts (EA) has announced it is planning to retire its gaming distribution platform Origin, which has been in use for the past 14 years, for its new EA app which launched in 2022.
The closure will come into effect from April 17, 2025, and users will be urged to migrate to the new platform.
The launch of Origin in 2011 was not popular with gamers and many titles were pulled from the more popular Steam platform, where many players had already established social connections and liked the features on the platform.
While making business sense for EA, it was viewed as a hostile move against gamers and the nostalgia-laden name Origin was changed for the newer, more contemporary EA app.
