Nintendo warns Switch 2 GameChat users: “Your chat is recorded”

Summary
Following the recent launch of Nintendo Switch 2, industry journalists have analysed the new GameChat communication feature, as well as the console maker’s updated privacy policy.
Nintendo states that it may monitor and record video and audio interactions during GameChat sessions, as well as sharing the footage with partners and law enforcement in the event of a violation of its community guidelines.
GameChat users must agree to these terms before using the feature for the first time, and can remain in place indefinitely, or until consent is withdrawn.
The company also reserves the right to disclose certain information to third parties, such as legal authorities or subcontractors.
The purpose of the recording feature is, reportedly, to “protect GameChat users, especially minors” and to uphold community guidelines.
The feature follows recent attempts by Nintendo to increase the protection of younger users, namely the requirement that adults download the Nintendo Parental Controls app onto smartphones to sync with a junior account.
