Summary
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has posted Q4 earnings which saw its data centre division earn $3.9bn, a 23% rise boosted by its Epyc server processors and Instinct AI accelerators.
Its client segment also earned $2.3bn thanks to sales of its Ryzen CPUs.
However, the gaming division earned $563m, down 59% YoY, as sales of its dedicated graphics cards and semi-custom chips, used in game consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation, declined.
Its new Radeon RX 9000-series graphics cards, launched in early March, are hoping toaddress the sluggish sales and bring “high-quality gaming to mainstream players”, positioning them alongside rival Nvidia’s offerings priced between 500and800.
The GPUs are also expected to rely on upscaling algorithms to achieve playable frame rates at resolutions lower than 4K.
