The speedrunner, who streams his attempts to achieve the record on Twitch, actually managed a time of 1 minute, 59.97 seconds,Benefiting from both incredible skill and luck, Salt’s 21 punches needed to be ‘frame perfect’, meaning they had to be entered into the game console at the exact moment it refreshed, otherwise Tyson’s defences would block them.
He also required a series of eight one-frame pauses from the game during Tyson’s turns, which he utilised to get back into counter-punching position as quickly as possible, crucial for his successful run.
The success took over five years and 75,000 attempts to achieve.
