Nintendo is yet to confirm the price of its Switch 2 console, but its president, Shintaro Furukawa, has indicated that the device’s pricing will be influenced by the global financial situation.
While the yen’s devaluation against the dollar may mean that Nintendo makes more money from hardware sales in the US, it could mean that if the price of Switch 2 is set high, it could be prohibitively expensive for Japanese consumers.
This situation also leads to the question of whether the cost of manufacturing the device has also increased, given that everything is priced in yen and the cost of shipping has increased.
This may well be the thing that causes the price to veer towards the top of analysts’ expectations of up to $499.
