Summary
Valve has released the source code for Team Fortress 2 (TF2), giving mod makers more opportunity for ambitious projectsthan previously possible.
While the SDK license only allows projects to be published on a non-commercial basis, this is a significant move towards opening up the game to the modding community.
This release has also allowed Valve to update other games based on the Source engine, including adding 64-bit binary support, scalable HUD graphics and borderless window options.
This follows the major 25-year anniversary update to Half-Life 2, which included upgrades such as overbright lighting, gamepad configurations and Steam networking support.
The games based on this engine will also be included in future updates, such as the upcoming Steam Deck.
