Rumours that Microsoft is developing an Xbox portable gaming device, coined ‘Keenan’, are accelerating after a report suggested it would partner with a PC gaming OEM for a handheld release this year.
It will feature Xbox design sensibilities, but will likely be a Windows-based core PC device.
The device will need to stand out in a crowded market, and Arstechnica suggests a bespoke user interface, built from the ground up for gamers, following in the footsteps of SteamOS.
Microsoft has experience with elegant controller-driven interfaces, and previously reported to be working on a lightweight version of its Xbox interface.
