Microsoft’s new AI “Copilot for Gaming” struggles to justify its existence

Tech company Microsoft has announced that it is rolling out a new AI sidekick for gaming, called Copilot for Gaming.
This will be available from April, via a mobile app preview, for Xbox Insider users.
Copilot for Gaming aims to provide personalised guidance and offer gaming recommendations.
While last year’s concept videos showed how the AI could provide real-time conversations while gaming, the actual release version is much more basic.
The new app seems to provide convenience functions that are easily achieved without AI, and acts more as a version of Apple’s Siri or Google Assistant optimised for gaming.
On previewing the app, commentators have suggested that while some functions, such as installation prompts, could be more convenient, Copilot’s key functions are things that gamers can currently do for themselves.
