Review: Nvidia’s $999 GeForce RTX 5080 falls disappointingly short of the 4090

Summary
Nvidia’s new GeForce RTX 5080 is faster than the RTX 4080 it has replaced, as well as the RTX 3080 Ti, 3090 and 3090 Ti cards.
It also boasts Nvidia’s new DLSS Multi-Frame Generation technology, which the company says can mitigate the gap in raw rendering performance when compared to the premium RTX 5090.
While the 5080 is cheaper than the 5090, it still feels very similar in performance to the 4080 Super, meaning it is an upgrade from the 4080, but not a particularly significant one.
Those who own a 30-series or older GPU would see a more noticeable jump in performance, but given the theoretical prices of the cards, they will probably still be out of reach for many.
As demand for GPUs amongst gamers has fallen, due to the endemicity of ransomware, crypto-mining has risen, this has led to a perceived supply shortage of cards, which has been hit by scalpers.
