Nintendo has taken a different approach with its new console, calling it the Nintendo Switch 2 and indicating that it is essentially more of the same, rather than a whole new product.
The console is 34% heavier than the original Switch, and slightly wider and taller, making it solid feeling without being too heavy or bulky.
The screen is one of the highlights, with Nintendo opting for a 7.9-inch model that offers full 1080p resolution, HDR colours and variable frame rates of up to 120 fps, which according to the reviewer, would compare well to top-end OLED models.
This emphasis on “more of the same” sees the console include largely the same controller hardware as the original, and while there are some minor changes to the design and some new tech under the hood, it’s essentially the same user experience.
This extends to the OS, with the reviewer stating that it feels like a “supercharged” version of the original Switch OS, rather than a wholly new one.
