Hunt: Showdown developers Crytek lay off around 60 people after shelving Crysis 4

Summary
Crytek is to make 15% of its workforce redundant, affecting around 60 employees, as the company claims it needs to become more lean to face “unfavourable market dynamics” impacting the gaming industry.
The company had already paused development of Crysis 4 last year, with staff moved over to Hunt: Showdown 1896.
Crytek also stated it had been trying to “reduce costs and cut operating expenses” but these efforts were not enough to avoid redundancies.
While Hunt: Showdown appears to be prospering, with a concurrency peak of 60,000 players in August 2024, it is still some way off the huge revenues generated by the likes of GTA V.
The company also has its CryEngine business to fall back on, which dates back to the early 2000s.
