Summary
Unity Technologies, the US game engine developer, is making a sixth round of mass layoffs since 2022, though the number of job cuts remains undisclosed.
According to a memo from CEO Matthew Bromberg, which was leaked to website 80.lv, the firm is suffering from having stretched its product and engineering teams across too many products, creating complexity and limiting impact.
In an attempt to reverse the company’s fortunes and focus on long-term growth, Unity will now focus on “fidelity for ubiquity”, aiming to improve the usability of its software across a range of devices.
Other areas of focus include investing in stability, platform extensibility and live services, alongside generative AI and increased access to player data for advertisers.
The reorganisations will impact offices in Montreal, Tel Aviv, Copenhagen, Seoul, Tokyo and San Francisco.
