Make a splitscreen-only Splinter Cell, demands Hazelight boss, even as Ubisoft double-down on open worlds

Summary
Josef Fares, founder of Hazelight Studios, has urged Ubisoft to make a Splinter Cell game that is only available in split-screen co-op mode.
While the Splinter Cell games do have a co-op mode, asking Ubisoft to make a game that lacks a single-player option is like asking Cadbury to make chocolate bars out of soot.
Ubisoft has been working on rebooting the Splinter Cell franchise since 2021, but recent mass layoffs suggest the company is not inclined to release a game that will appeal to a narrow audience of stealth fans, especially those who play offline.
Recently, Ubisoft’s CEO emphasised the company’s focus on online game-as-a-service experiences and open-world action-adventures, the two “verticals” it is concentrating on.
Therefore, despite Fares claiming a splitscreen-only Splinter Cell would be a “guaranteed success”, it is unlikely Ubisoft will take him up on the offer, given their current trajectory and business priorities.
