Summary
Electronic Arts (EA) has restored and released the source code for several Command and Conquer (C&C) games, which will now be available to modders under the GPL licence.
The games include C&C’s Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert, Renegade and Generals, as well as the latter’s Zero Hour expansion.
EA commissioned Luke “CCHyper” Feenan to restore the source code for the games.
As well as releasing the source code, EA has also added Steam Workshop support to several C&C games, and updated the mission editor and world builder tools.
This will allow custom mapmakers to publish maps directly to the Steam Workshop.
EA has also released a C&C Modding Support pack, containing source files for all games that run on the original series developer Westwood’s SAGE engine.
