Summary
Sydney-based Video Games Deluxe has been renamed Rockstar Australia following its acquisition by Rockstar Games, the developer behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
The studio previously collaborated with Rockstar on the 2017 re-release of L.A. Noire, its VR spin-off, and post-launch updates for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition.
It’s expected that the team will be assisting with development of the next game in the Grand Theft Auto series, GTA 6, which is set for release on consoles this year, with a PC version to follow.
The studio was founded by Brendan McNamara, who was also the founder of original L.A. Noire developer Team Bondi.
Following rocky circumstances at Team Bondi, McNamara and other former staff established Video Games Deluxe in 2013.
The team then began work on a spiritual successor to L.A. Noire, Whore of the Orient, but the project was shuttered after Warner Bros pulled funding for the title.
