Summary
Thunderful, the parent company of Studio Fizbin, made the decision to dramatically cut internal development in November 2024, which has resulted in Studio Fizbin having to close.
This comes despite the studio pitching ideas for future projects.
Thunderful recently made the decision to shift their focus to publishing games by outside studios, rather than developing their own, which has resulted in studios like Fizbin having to close, and for around 80-100 jobs to be cut.
Fizbin is currently getting ready to release its final game, the anti-establishment roguelike Reignbreaker, on March 18.
The game has been likened to Hades, and addresses themes of right-wing authoritarianism, growing class divide and exploitation.
Fizbin’s previous titles include The Inner World and Minute of Islands, both of which were well-received by Rock, Paper, Shotgun staff.
The studio will now work to ship Reignbreaker, whilst also providing post-launch support and supporting staff in finding new work.
