Take-Two sues GTA 5 account boosters for pressuring innocent players into buying unauthorized goods

Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of video game developers Rockstar, has filed a lawsuit against online marketplace PlayerAuctions.
The lawsuit claims that PlayerAuctions sells modified player accounts obtained by hacking, thereby infringing Take-Two’s intellectual property rights and undermining the companies’ terms of service.
PlayerAuctions operates in a similar manner to eBay, whereby a seller creates listings for in-game assets which are then sold to the highest bidder.
Buying and selling virtual items is not, in itself, illegal; it becomes unlawful when the marketplace operates in breach of the terms of service established by the original publisher.
Last month, Roblox filed a similar lawsuit against PlayerAuctions, alleging that the company engaged in unethical practices such as buying and selling illegal modifications (“mods”) and stolen virtual items.
