Well, the chase has begun. Rockstar parent company Take-Two are after the identity of the hacker or hackers behind this week’s GTA 6 leak. Having spent a number of days swatting clips with takedowns, while the leakers dumped more and more across the net, Take-Two have filed multiple subpoenas in federal district court asking Microsoft and Discord to share records related to accounts which have been involved in posting and sharing the leaks. As first reported by Kotaku, a subpoena filed with the Southern District Court of New York on August 20th cited “copyrighted material” which “includes but is not limited to audiovisual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements”. “Take-Two, through its counsel of record, has submitted a sworn declaration confirming that the purpose for which the DMCA subpoena is sought is to obtain the identity of an alleged infringer or infringers, and that such information will only be used for the purpose of protecting Take-Two’s rights…,” it continued. The subpoena requests “all internal Microsoft business records and investigative records associated with Microsoft’s internal investigation of the ‘cyberleek’ persona sufficient to identify the user(s), person(s) and/or entity/ies associated with that persona” by September 4th. Cyberleek, of course, is the handle the person or persons behind the latest leak go by. Meanwhile, Discord have been asked for “all identifying information associated with all user accounts that are/were members” of a specific list of servers between June 1st and now. When it comes to accounts which end up in their crosshairs, Take-Two are hunting for info like account IDs, registration emails, registration and last-login IP addresses, phone numbers, linked connections like Google or Xbox, any associated device identifiers, and any content related to Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar or Cyberleek on OneDrive accounts. One of the Discord servers listed reportedly belongs to Australian GTA YouTuber and streamer Matthew Judge, who goes by the handle DarkViperAU. “I am confused,” Judge wrote in a tweet. “I did say he can’t drive multiple times, so maybe I caused him to write ‘Cyberleek can’t drive’ on the most recent clips? Maybe he visited my Discord, I dunno. Rockstar hasn’t emailed me, I suspect if they thought I knew something personally they would do so.” As of writing, Rockstar and Take-Two remain yet to comment publicly on this latest GTA 6 leak.
