Pretty much since the day Red Dead Redemption 2 and they saw its map included Red Dead 1 states New Austin and West Elizabeth, but didn’t extend south of the border, modders have been looking to add in their own re-creations of Mexico. There have been a few attempts already, but the latest looks the most detailed yet and is due out in September. Watch on YouTube Spearheaded by modder Rixus724, who’s been involved in all of the previous goes at an RDR2 Mexico expansion I’m aware of, this one’s dubbed Red Dead Redemption 2: Nuevo Paraiso and it’s due out on September 16th. Rixus724 revealed that date via the description of a fresh trailer released over the weekend. “Return to Mexico and rediscover the vast and unforgiving state of Nuevo Paraíso, recreated to fit seamlessly within the story and timeline of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 1907,” reads a synopsis for the mod from that same video description. “Explore a Mexico on the brink of change, where beautiful landscapes and growing settlements stand alongside political unrest, government oppression, and a population struggling under an increasingly unstable regime.” You can “experience Nuevo Paraíso as a living frontier, from its quiet towns and remote ranches to its railways, bandit hideouts, and territories under government control,” the description adds. The likes of gang hideouts, train robberies, new mysteries, and hidden secrets await, with the modder declaring: “Every corner offers something new to discover as Nuevo Paraíso expands beyond its original boundaries.” The trailer features cameos from both John Marston and Sadie Adler. I’m not sure if those are just to give this preview a bit more RDR2 grounding, but if they do feature in the DLC’s story, I personally hope it’s not accompanied by some AI-voiced impressions of Rob Wiethoff and Alex McKenna.
