Dwarf Fortress creator toys with the idea of an Elf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress programmer Tarn Adams has dropped a reference to a potential new title: Elf Fortress, during a Parchment Gamer interview at this year’s Game Developer Conference.
When discussing the rationale behind dwarf fantasy characters versus elves, Adams suggests that elves would create a very different narrative within the game: “the antics they get up to, especially when it’s a bit buggy or just being weird - I don’t think elves would hit the same way,” says Adams.
Elves have already featured in Dwarf Fortress, however, player cultures need to be modified to behave more like dwarves for a colony to succeed.
Elves are a well-entrenched literary archetype and psychological metaphor appearing in different stories, with different depiction varying from seductive, murderous bluebloods to a declining, noble caste of immortals.
Building a game of Dwarf Fortress depth around the persona and associations of an elf would be a huge task, but the opportunity to have Adams tackle this has piqued interest.
