Europa Universalis 5 won't launch with a subscription - but it might get one later

Summary
Paradox Tinto has said no to a subscription model being launched at the same time as Europa Universalis 5’s release, unless there is also relevant content to accompany it.
Game director Johan Andersson comments that it would be difficult to implement a subscription model right from the start, without content to supplement it.
However, Paradox has previously experimented with subscriptions to its other popular games, including Europa Universalis 4, as well as offering a subscription to all Stellaris’s space content for £8.50 a month.
Although players can still buy each game individually, the subscription option is also available.
Despite no subscription model slated for Europa Universalis 5, Andersson has assured players that there will be enough in the game to encourage veterans to purchase the new game.
He states that almost all the features included in Europa Universalis 4’s DLCs will be part of the Europa Universalis 5 base game.
Furthermore, Paradox Tinto is not currently concerned with DLC plans, preferring to focus on the release of the base game.
