Summary
Reburn, a new company formed by the developers of Metro, 4A Games Ukraine, have released their first game in the form of sci-fi FPS, La Quimera, in early access.
La Quimera was originally intended for full release, but the developers underwent a sudden pivot to early access due to technical complications and limited resources.
The game is set in a futuristic version of Latin America, featuring neo-Aztec megacities and feral bots, with the player assuming the role of a PMC trooper involved in a straightforward rescue mission that spirals into wider geopolitical intrigue.
La Quimera has a suite of tertiary abilities and upgrades, as well as co-op play, though the gunplay and narrative dialogue are currently lacking.
The developers have outlined a number of intended improvements to be made over the course of its time in early access, including deeper narrative and gameplay integration and expanded NPC involvement.
It will be 18 months until the game’s full release and, according to the article, it “needs a lot of work” and currently “just feels a bit undercooked”, so gamers should probably wait until the full release to play.
