Microsoft are laying off even more of their staff, with potentially almost 7000 workers at risk

Summary
Microsoft has reportedly laid off approximately 3% of its global workforce, which equates to around 7,000 employees.
This is the company’s most significant round of layoffs since January 2023, when the company let go of 10,500 staff, and September 2022, when 650 employees lost their jobs.
In a statement, Microsoft said that the layoffs were necessary to “position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace” and achieve its ambition of “serving more customers and partners in more effective ways.”
It is not known whether any gaming studios owned by Microsoft have been affected by the layoffs.
So far this year, roughly 2,200 jobs have been lost in the games industry, with over 14,600 citrus in 2024, 8,500 in 2022, and 10,500 in 2023, according to an unofficial industry tracker.
This makes Microsoft’s recent decision all the more alarming, as the company only recently reported a 18% increase in net income.
