Pathologic 3 devs defend choice to cut the plague town's open world to bits

Summary
Pathologic 3, the first-person survival game from Russian developer Ice-Pick Lodge, is making some big changes to the open world format of its predecessors.
While previous titles allowed players to freely explore a town, this newest iteration will use isolated pockets and require players to use maps and fast travel to move between them.
This has proved contentious with fans of the series, however, Ice-Pick has stated that it wanted to avoid simply re-making the same game, and that the splintered world is a core part of the game’s concept.
It also clarified that the recent prologue, Pathologic 3: Quarantine, was just a demo and that the full game will offer street-level gameplay in addition to the map-based traversing.
Ice-Pick is looking into other changes, including improving the hero’s mental state survival meter and smoothing performance issues.
Pathologic 3 is expected to launch sometime this year.
