Video game developer Electronic Arts (EA) has told staff it is ending remote working and hiring, and will instead implement a return to the office policy, according to reports.
CEO Andrew Wilson told employees in an email that in-person work encouraged creativity, innovation and connection, and helped generate breakthroughs.
Staff within a 30-mile radius of an EA office will have to work in the office for at least three days a week, while those beyond the 30-mile limit will be “considered remote unless their role is designated as On Site or Hybrid,” insiders told IGN.
One source told the publication that exemptions for staff unable to return to the office due to childcare or medical issues would be rescinded over the next two years.
Last year, EA laid off around 300 staff, while in 2022 it let go of 5% of its workforce, equivalent to roughly 670 employees.
