Summary

  • Ubisoft has announced it is pushing back several games as it wants to cut costs by at least €100m across the group over the next two years.
  • The speculative list of postponed games includes (if unspecified big names are included) Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six titles, but also Star Wars: Outlaws, The Division, and the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake.
  • Yves Guillemot, CEO, said 2022 had been a challenging year with mixed dynamics across the portfolio, but added the company was in a strong position thanks to the “discipline applied across the group” and the recent launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows – which has apparently achieved the second-highest launch-day revenue of any game in the series.
  • The company has also recently launched a new corporate subsidiary in partnership with Tencent, dedicated to its popular games.
  • Following mass layoffs in January, Ubisoft has shrunk its staff headcount by 3,000 since September 2022.
