Summary
Bungie, the independent US video game developer, is facing a difficult week following negative press surrounding new title Marathon and internal issues affecting morale.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun (RPS) has reported that Bungie has admitted to using copyrighted material in the Marathon game without permission from the artist.
During a Twitch livestream about the game, players commented on the unauthorized usage, to which the game directors addressed, though the game already has a mixed reception.
Forbes has since then reported that morale is in “free-fall” across all departments at Bungie, and source have said staff are concerned about the game launch and future of the company.
Marathon was allegedly pitched five years ago by “good old boy” leadership, and developers had early onraised issues and concerns that were largely ignored.
Bungie has many Destiny 2 expansions and updates due, but this may not be enough to bring players back to the franchise.
