Summary
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has partnered with New York studio iNK Stories to develop a video game adaptation of Macbeth set in contemporary Iran.
The game, titled Lili, will be an interactive drama in the style of Sam Barlow’s Her Story and Telling Lies.
It will feature Macbeth’s witches as hackers and allow players to immerse themselves in the world of Lady Macbeth through live-action cinema and influencing her destiny through their choices.
The game is scheduled to enter production in late 2025, with actress Zar Amir drawing on her lived experience as an Iranian woman in exile for the production.
This shift towards incorporating interactive elements with theatre and literature reflects the changing attitudes of younger generations towards more immersive storytelling.
