Celeste devs cancel lush platformer Earthblade to focus on smaller-scale projects

Summary
Extremely OK Games, the developer behind Celeste and Towerfall, has cancelled its pixel-art exploration platformer Earthblade, following a disagreement among its development team.
Studio director Maddy Thorson said in a statement that despite reaching a resolution with co-founder and art director Pedro Medeiros, the two parties had “agreed that we should go our separate ways”.
Medeiros has since revealed his own next project, Neverway.
Following Medeiros’ departure, Thorson and lead programmer Noel Berry decided to scrap the project, as despite its promise, it was not as far along as they would have liked.
Thorson said the pressure to deliver something even better than the critically acclaimed Celeste had made the creation of Earthblade “exhausting” and that the pair wanted to refocus on smaller-scale projects.
The other members of the Earthblade team, including composer Lena Raine, have since parted ways with Extremely OK Games, though the company says it hopes to work with them again in future.
