Summary
The Game Developers Conference (GDC) has published its 13th annual State of the Game Industry Survey, which interviews more than 3,000 developers on a range of topics.
The report highlights that the past year has seen industry lay-offs, with almost one in 10 developers losing their jobs, whilst more studios are adopting generative AI despite the technology being unpopular with developers, who cite IP theft, energy consumption and poor-quality output as concerns.
However, the report also notes that PC development has surged, more studios are prioritising accessibility, whilst film and TV adaptation of games is still popular.
Furthermore, the number of developers working reduced hours increased, whilst attitudes towards diversity and sustainability efforts were broadly positive.
