Summary
Cyclopean: The Great Abyss is a new RPG that has emerged in early access this month.
It casts the player as an English aristocrat who has dreamt themselves into a sinister abyss, tasking them to search for a way back to the waking world.
The game has minimalist retro mechanics with influences from the Ultima series.
It includes dungeon crawling, turn-based combat and stealth elements, with three potential endings to the current build.
The full 1.0 version is expected in six months, with hopes to include more elaborate quests and NPC interactions as well as a more elaborate sanity system.
However, the game has current issues with torches and visibility, making it difficult for players to see in dark environments, and navigate hazards.
Developed by Chicago-based solo developer Schmidt Workshops, previous work includes Islands of The Caliph: an RPG based on Middle Eastern folklore.
