National security adviser, Michael Waltz, recently invited a journalist into a private policy group chat and, separately, it was revealed that his Venmo account was wide open, revealing the names of his personal and professional associates.
To ensure your own Venmo account does not leave you open to scrutiny, consideration or embarrassment, check and change your privacy settings to private, and make sure your past transactions and contacts are not visible.
You can also opt to not sync the app with your contact list, unless you plan to send money to many of your contacts, and it’s also recommended to keep your location hidden from the app.
Furthermore, users can select to not appear in other people’s friends lists, enabling more limited visibility.
Any of these settings can be changed for specific transactions without impacting others.
