Summary

  • Default apps on Apple’s iOS used to be rigid, but now users have more freedom to choose default apps in eight categories, including email, messaging, calling, browser and contactless payment.
  • This is how to customise your default apps:
  • Go to Settings, then Apps, then Default Apps
  • Select a category such as Email or Calling
  • Choose your preferred app to set as the default
  • The change is immediate, so you can test it out by opening a link or taking the action that would trigger your new default app.
  • In some categories, such as Passwords & Codes, you can select more than one default app.
  • You can rearrange or delete keyboards via the Keyboards menu in Default Apps.
  • A full list of keyboards can be accessed by pressing and holding the globe icon when typing.
