Apple has launched the Apple Health Study, which seeks to gather data from iPhones, Apple Watches and AirPods in order to find new relationships between different areas of health.
The virtual study, which will appear in the Research app, will explore a wide range of health-related topics, including activity, ageing, cardiovascular health, hearing, menstrual health, metabolic health and sleep.
It is being run with Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, and is intended to last for around five years, with the potential to be extended.
Apple’s vice president of health, Sumbul Desai, said the company will “drive and inform our decisions about what things to add to the product roadmap when we see that there’s science that supports building up this work.
