Trump cuts Energy Star program that saved households $450 a year

The US Energy Star programme, which offers information on how much energy appliances consume, could be abandoned as part of the Trump administration’s cost-cutting measures.
The government scheme was originally launched by the first Bush administration in 1992 to help reduce domestic energy bills and conserve resources.
Since its launch, the programme has saved consumers more than 500bninenergycosts,withanaverageannualsavingof450 per household.
However, it costs the federal government only $32m a year to run.
Officials at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which oversees Energy Star, have been told that the programme will be disbanded.
