Ontario holds off on ‘ripping up’ Starlink deal with US tariffs delayed

Summary
On Wednesday, the Canadian province of Ontario, led by Doug Ford, announced it is cancelling a C100m(68m) contract with SpaceX’s Starlink service.
As a direct result of US President Trump’s recently implemented tariffs on Canadian aluminium, Ontario has also said it will “ban American companies from provincial contracts”.
However, following the announcement by Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau of a 30-day delay on the tariffs coming into force, Ford said Ontario would “pause our retaliatory measures”.
Should the tariffs be implemented permanently, Ford threatened to remove American products from the shelves of Ontario liquor stores and to continue to blacklist US companies from provincial procurement.
This is the latest move in the budding trade war between the two countries, which last week saw Canadian Prime Minister candidate Chrystia Freeland call for Tesla cars to face 100% tariffs.
