Doctor Behind Award-Winning Parkinson’s Research Among Scientists Purged From NIH

Summary
Top scientists at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) have been told they are being laid off.
At least 10 principal investigators leading medical research at the agency have been fired, including Dr Richard Youle, a noted Parkinson’s disease expert.
The Health and Human Services (HHS) department, headed by President Trump’s vaccine-skeptic adviser, Robert Kennedy Jr, has already cut a quarter of the NIH’s workforce.
Last week, Kennedy announced plans to cut a further 1,200 jobs at the NIH in procurement, human resources and communications.
Senators have invited Kennedy to discuss the HHS reorganisation.
NIH leaders are said to be attempting to overturn the terminations, which scientists fear will significantly impede ongoing research.
