Scientists Claim to Have Brought Back the Dire Wolf

In a secret location in the US, Colossal Biosciences has been working on de-extincting the dire wolf, a species which went extinct more than 10,000 years ago.
Colossal has so far created three of the animals, which have been genetically edited to have the characteristics of the ancient dire wolf, such as more pronounced shoulders, a slightly wider head, thicker haunches and a white coat.
The company intends to create seven or eight dire wolves in total, for use in a future rewilding project, although it is not yet clear if they will ever be released into the wild.
Colossal has also used its cloning technique to produce four red wolves, one of the most critically endangered species in the US, with the intention of releasing the animals into the wild in the future to boost the captive breeding population.
