Did a Rock Hit Your Windshield, or Did Your Windshield Hit a Rock?
1 min read
Summary
You unexpectedly hear a loud thud and a crack on your windshield, and you wonder what could have caused it.
Normally it’s from objects dropped from a vehicle in front of you, or sometimes an object on the road that gets kicked up, and this causes damage to your windshield.
A common misconception is that the object will bounce back towards you, however, this is not true as there is a transfer of energy which causes the object to move upwards.
The damage to your windshield is more likely when a large truck is involved, due to the size and pressure of the tires, and if objects get stuck and are released at an angle, they can cause damage.
It is advised that you keep a reasonable distance between you and the vehicle in front of you to avoid any unforeseen damage to your vehicle.
