Curious Claim of Conversion of Aluminium into Transparent Aluminium Oxide
1 min read
Summary
Scientists from the Ateneo De Manila university in the Philippines have published a paper in the Langmuir journal claiming to have made aluminium transparent by using a low-voltage anodization process.
The process created localised spots of transparent aluminium oxide, however, the research has been called into question due to suspicious imagery and a lack of detail on its practical uses.
While the paper has been met with some scepticism, the authors claim it could be used in holography, solar cells or efficient reactors.
Aluminium oxynitride, a ceramic material made from aluminium, oxygen and nitrogen, is reportedly created under high pressures in an elaborate process, rather than through anodization.
