Fan of the unique yellow floppy disks that were created for the Commodore 64 computer has traced their origins to Oregon in the US and the Astoria Commodore User Group.
User group member, David Mohr, created the floppy disks that required a specific operating system and upgraded machines to access the stories, adventure games and other software on the disks.
The “Penny Farthing” disks traded long after the heyday of the Commodore 64, until the death of Mohr in 2009, which also marked the end of the disks being produced.
This isn’t the only quirky format of floppy disk to have been popular in computing niches, with Tri-Format floppy disks also having been widely used.
