The Space Monitor is a device that indicates the positions in space of the International Space Station (ISS) and Mars, amongst other objects in the cosmos.
Currently, the device is limited to just the two objects, however, it is possible to add new objects to track by loading in the relevant orbital data.
The device is devised to provide an innovative way to comprehend the positions of objects in space through a 3D printed indicator and an LCD screen, powered by an ESP32 processor.
Featuring several additional functions, such as remote firmware updates and the capability to point smartphones to the device’s configuration page via on-screen QR codes, the device serves more as a developmental platform than a personal-use gadget.
This is just one example of how the increasing prevalence of IoT devices and ‘internet-connected things’ is expanding, even into niche personal interest areas such as astronomy and astrophysics.
